50 weeks in London (5) – London Fashion Weekend

“Vodafone London Fashion Weekend is London’s largest and most exclusive designer shopping event open to the public biannually. Enjoy shopping, pampering, champagne and catwalk shows over four days with British designers including Rigby & Peller, Pringle of Scotland, Jaeger, French Sole, American Retro, Twenty8Twelve, Yes Master and Antipodium selling their collections at up to 70% off normal prices.”

Sound like great fun doesn’t it? So obviously I went to check it out – and made a few shots to share with you. The event is held twice a year, in February and in September over 4 days in Somerset house.

This is probably the ultimate (as well as very expensive) girls day out. The ticket costs about £20 (buying it in advance will save you about a fiver) just for shopping and then extra if you want to visit shows or have a specially designed goodie bag. This year the canvas bag was designed by Radley, these are always a big hit (personally I though £10 was a bit expensive for a canvas bag and some testers). If you would like to see the shows I would highly recommend to buy the tickets in advance as they usually sell out pretty quickly.

So twice a year the Somerset House is turned into a place that very clearly wants to imitate a dream house for a shopaholic. There are loads of little rooms turned into different designer boutiques with cafes, freebies, massage corners, cocktail bars and beauty salons. You can easily spend the whole day wondering around and enjoying the busy hustle and bustle with a bunch of excited women.

You can find everything from vintage fur, leather bags and new designer clothes to high street favorites like DKNY. Everything at discounted prices of up to -70%(most often it is still quite expensive for someone who is mostly shopping in the high street).

Knowing that you need something special for the new season it is a great place to find whatever is in your mind as the choice is pretty mind-blowing. Goind there without anything particular in mind? – be sure you will still walk away from there with at least something.

The shows are a great place for celebrity spotting, but the general ground on the shopping space tends to be mainly foreigners and tourists.

All the fashionistas and shopaholics, make some room into your calendar for the next event in September.
